World's air conditioner is petering out fast

Arctic sea ice is set to shrink to a record low by the end of August, and then keep on melting at an unprecedented pace, the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center said Monday. That's scary news, not just for polar bears. Data Center scientists say the amount of Arctic sea ice – dubbed "the world’s air conditioner" – can influence global weather and may indicate climate change is progressing more rapidly than expected. "Everything about this points in the same direction: we've made the Earth warmer," the center’s lead scientist, Ted Scambos, told Reuters. Chilling.
