FBI Biometric Priorities

The FBI's Biometric Center of Excellence (BCOE) established the FBI Biometric Priorities to communicate the specific areas of importance to stakeholders. The priorities serve an important role in ranking biometric initiatives considered for possible resource allocation.

A common set of evaluation criteria are used to objectively rank projects for possible funding based upon the biometric priorities. These priorities guide the FBI's biometric efforts to maximize return on investment. The Fiscal Year 2013 biometric priorities are:

  1. Extend biometric technical capabilities
  2. Strengthen forensic science and advance biometrics
  3. Drive national biometrics
  4. Improve national security by developing and deploying biometric technologies
