Ebola patient in Texas first in U.S. to be diagnosed with deadly virus

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Tuesday that a patient at a hospital in Dallas, Texas, has been diagnosed with the Ebola virus.

The unidentified patient, who is being treated at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, is the first person in the U.S. to be diagnosed with the deadly virus.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the north Texas hospital said the patient was in strict isolation while tests were being conducted to determine whether the Ebola virus was present.

It is unclear how the patient contracted the virus. The CDC was expected to hold a press conference Tuesday evening.

West African countries are currently battling a deadly outbreak of Ebola that has killed more than 3,000 people this year. The CDC reported Tuesday the outbreak is now nearly contained in Nigeria and Senegal. UPI
