When we moved to the Springfield area a few years ago, I loved the small town atmosphere and the ability to read opinions from locals.

I was regularly amused by the musings of Local Voice columnist Roger Ray. As time went on, as I found that Ray was a Christian and, even better, a pastor, he was moving up in the ranks.

I found out that he was a little left of center in both his lifestyle and his Christianity, and later I found out he was little left of left.

But this didn’t matter because he was a Christian, follower of Christ.

I made allowances. Christianity can handle a wide variety of beliefs.

In the Jan. 22 column, Ray proclaims that he does not believe the Bible is the word of God and he does not believe that Jesus was divine.

He proclaims that Jesus was a great teacher but denies divinity.

Roger, you managed to offend even this moderate! Why the charade?

If you join the Lions club and denigrate their rules, you get thrown out.

Why even bother to say you are a Christian or a Christian pastor when you don’t believe commonly held beliefs?

So, four of us Christians took a vote and decided that we no longer want Ray in the club.

Speaking for Christianity, his membership has been rescinded. He should not come to the weekly meetings or speak for Christianity!

There are plenty of teachers he can follow — Gandhi, etc. — or form his own church, but he should not use Christianity as his pulpit because, in reality, he doesn’t like Christianity or Christians.

By the way, hecan come back to Christianity any time.

We are a forgiving bunch. SpringfieldNewsLeader
